Excuse the pun, but that precisely what happening: the Titan company is watching the sales of its watches rise to inconceivable numbers, especially considering its humble beginnings less than thirty years ago.
Titan was founded in Hosur, India in 1987 by Xerxes Desai. When it opened its production line for the first time, their chief competitor HMT was considerably bigger than them. While Titan was only able to produce a mere half a million pieces a year, HMT was successfully distributing some six million pieces.
It took nearly six years for the company to really gain momentum and soon became the No 1 in the quartz watches industry.
Soon after, Titan went into producing jewelry which proved to be a success as well.
However, too soon was Titan’s Europe launch which seemed to be going well until some few years later when the company lost a lot of money on the venture. Titan executive have claimed that their failure in Europe was primarily a result of the unfair stigma applied to Indian made products.
Today, Titan can be found in 26 countries worldwide, mainly in Asia.
With their current 3,000 employees, Titan continues to grow at a steady pace, and stays consistent in quality and style. This year, they have announced their objective, is to reach $1 billion turnover.
The stage is set, they could succeed.
