IWC Pilot’s Watch Pays Homage to Antoine de Saint Saint Exupery

IWC might not be as widely known as other luxury watch brands, but they enjoy a loyal following of luxury watch connoisseurs around the world.
One of my favorite new watches from IWC is the Big Pilot’s “Antoine de Saint Exupery” edition. The Antoine de Saint Exupery completes the company’s limited edition “Pilot’s Watch” collection, each edition of which is traditionally dedicated to a work by a particular author. But the company has broken with tradition this time around, and has chosen to name this watch after an author’s entire literary movement.

In keeping with the style of IWC’s Pilot Watches, the Antoine de Saint Exupery edition is characterized by a tobacco brown dial, an “A” initial at the nine o’clock hour, and a calfskin leather strap. IWC fans are “connoisseurs” of fine watchmaking, so this watch will be immediately recognizable as a Pilot’s Watch. The only difference in this edition is the watch’s size. It is the largest Pilot’s Watch they have made so far, measuring 46 mm in diameter, which houses a house-made, self-winding 51111 calibre movement with a seven-day power reserve.
The “Saint Exupery” also features an engraving of the author in his days as a military pilot, and is available in rose gold, white gold and stainless steel. Each of the 1900 timepieces in this collection comes with a special edition biography of the author, and a single platinum version which will be sold by auction to the highest bidder.
