With the Tiger Woods scandal dominating the headlines, TAG Heuer has been in the news a lot lately. However, with this announcement, TAG hopes to bring the spotlight back to its watches.
In 2010, TAG Heuer will celebrate its 150th anniversary with its re-release of the famous Silverstone Chronograph. Originally introduced in 1974 the Silverstone Chronograph has become one of the most coveted TAG collector watches, due to its cushion cut-shaped case, which was inspired by the Silverstone Circuit, a famous English car racing track.
The Silvertone Chronograph features a Chronomatic Calibre 11, a first movement that was a self-winding automatic chronograph with micro rotor. The new model of the Silverstone will run on an updated version of this caliber.
The watch does not lose touch with its vintage look and features the brand’s original Heuer logo, as displayed on the dial, which itself is available in blue or brown and comes with two silver counters at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. The date can be viewed with the hand-applied date window at 6 o’clock and has two stainless steel pushbuttons at the 2 and 4 o’clock positions. The watch comes with a perforated alligator leather strap in brown or blue. This watch will be produced in a limited and numbered series of 1,500 of each color. With a price tag of $6,500 each, it doesn’t seem as though these will become discounted watches any time soon.
In addition to the re-edition of the Silverstone Chronograph, TAG is pleased to announce that it has renewed its partnership with McLaren, which began 25 years ago. This makes for one of the longest-standing sponsorships in watchmaking and automobile history.
