King of the Court

Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. Winning this year’s Wimbledon, the Swiss Roger Federer regained his number one world ranking from the Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
The Swiss have talent both on and off the court. Not only are all luxury watches made in Switzerland, but now the world’s number one tennis player also claims that as home. This past weekend, Roger Federer won his 6th Wimbledon crown and did it while wearing a Rolex. Federer leads the pack; he has won 15 grand slam titles (one more than Pete Sampras), which makes him the greatest player to ever pick up a tennis racket.
He must really like his Rolex because Mr. # 1 Player was wearing it during the game, when word on the street is that he really only has to wear it during trophy presentations. This is the deal, Federer’s contract with Rolex, signed in June of 2006, and is believed to be the most lucrative watch deal ever for an athlete: $15 million dollars over 10 years. Federer used to be the spokesperson for Maurice Lacroix watches, but when offered the chance to become a Rolex Ambassador, he willing paid the “break up” fee.
Boy, I bet Rolex is happy. Rolex likes to think of themselves as the king of watches and now their spokesperson is the King of the Court. Rolex watches can be conservative, sporty, elegant, classy and always expensive. Federer prefers the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date.
Coincidence?
It all came down to three minutes. Three minutes out of hours of playing was all it took to solidify Federer ‘s spot over American Andy Roddick. Three minutes and four points during the second set tiebreak put Federer on top. Roddick, who holds the fastest tennis serve record, clocked at 155 mph, is also known to prefer the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date.
